Everything you need to know to get started with free, browser-based video meetings. No downloads, no time limits.
What is BlockStar Meet?
BlockStar Meet is a free, browser-based video conferencing platform built for simplicity, speed, and security. You can start or join a meeting in seconds β no account required, no software to install. It works entirely in your web browser and is compatible with all modern browsers and platforms.
Starting a Meeting
Starting a meeting on BlockStar Meet takes less than 30 seconds. Follow these steps:
Go to blockstar.foundation in your browser. No account or sign-up is required.
The homepage suggests a random room name (e.g., 89992BraveTable). You can use the suggested name or type your own. Your most recent room is shown below for convenience.
Click the Join Room button. Your browser will ask permission to access your camera and microphone β click Allow.
You'll be prompted to enter your display name (e.g., "Ashish"). This is how other participants will see you in the meeting.
Once inside, use the Share button to copy the room link and send it to your participants. Anyone with the link can join instantly.
Joining an Existing Room
If someone has invited you to a meeting, you can join in two ways:
Click the link shared by the meeting host. Your browser will open BlockStar Meet directly in the correct room. Allow camera/microphone access when prompted.
Visit blockstar.foundation, type the exact room name in the input field, and click Join Room.
π‘ Tip
Room names are case-sensitive. Make sure you type the room name exactly as provided by the host.
Understanding the Meeting Interface
Once you're inside a meeting room, you'll see a dark interface with a video area in the center and a vertical toolbar on the left side.
Video & Audio Controls
BlockStar Meet offers high-quality, real-time audio and video up to 4K resolution with intelligent noise suppression.
Your webcam streams in real-time with support for resolutions up to 4K. To toggle your camera, click the camera icon on the left toolbar. When the icon turns red, your camera is off and others cannot see you.
BlockStar Meet features echo cancellation and noise suppression to ensure your voice comes through clearly. Click the microphone icon to mute or unmute yourself at any time.
Use Push-to-Talk mode if you prefer to only transmit audio while actively pressing a button. This is ideal for noisy environments where you want precise control over when you're heard.
Use the Video Privacy feature to blur your video feed or show only a placeholder to other participants while keeping your camera technically active.
Screen Sharing
Share your entire screen, a specific application window, or a single browser tab with all participants.
Click the Screen Share icon (monitor icon) on the left toolbar.
Your browser will show a picker β choose to share your Entire Screen, a Window, or a Browser Tab.
Click Share to begin. All participants will see your screen in real-time.
To stop sharing, click the Screen Share icon again or use the browser's built-in "Stop sharing" prompt.
π‘ Best Practice
When sharing a browser tab for presentations or demos, close unnecessary tabs first to avoid accidentally sharing sensitive content.
Chat & Messaging
Communicate with all participants through the in-meeting text chat without interrupting the conversation.
Click the chat icon (speech bubble) in the toolbar to open the chat panel. Type your message and press Enter or click Send.
Enhance your messages by inserting emojis. Use the emoji picker within the chat panel to add expressions to your text.
Share YouTube or other video links directly in the chat. Participants can view embedded video content without leaving the meeting.
Hosts can send broadcast announcements that appear prominently to all participants simultaneously.
File Sharing
Share any file type directly with meeting participants in real time β no external services required.
Open the chat panel by clicking the Chat icon in the left toolbar.
Click the File Upload icon (upload arrow) within the chat input area.
Select the file from your device. The file will be sent to all participants in the meeting.
Participants will see a download prompt and can save the file to their device.
π Supported File Types
BlockStar Meet supports sharing any file type β documents (PDF, DOCX), images (JPG, PNG), spreadsheets, presentations, archives, and more.
Recording Meetings
Record your meetings for later review, sharing with absent participants, or archiving important discussions.
Click the Record icon (vinyl record icon) in the left toolbar. A recording indicator will appear on screen to notify all participants that the session is being recorded.
Click the Record icon again to stop. The recording is automatically saved to your device. You can choose to save it for future reference or share it with others.
The recording captures screen content, all participant video feeds, and audio β everything visible in the meeting room at the time of recording.
β οΈ Note
Depending on room settings, recording may be restricted to the host only. Always inform participants before recording out of respect for their privacy.
Collaborative Whiteboard
The interactive whiteboard lets you and your participants draw, sketch, and explain concepts visually in real-time.
Draw freely with the pen tool, create shapes, add text annotations, and use color options to highlight important points.
Multiple participants can draw on the whiteboard at the same time. Changes are reflected instantly for everyone in the room.
Undo recent actions or clear the entire whiteboard at any time to start fresh.
Save the whiteboard content as an image to your device for later reference or to share with those who weren't in the meeting.
Click the whiteboard/screen icon in the left sidebar. The whiteboard will open in a shared view accessible to all participants. Host controls allow restricting whiteboard access to specific users.
Captions & Transcription
Live captions make your meetings more accessible and help participants follow along even in noisy environments.
Click the CC (Closed Captions) icon in the left toolbar.
Live captions will appear at the bottom of the meeting screen, transcribing spoken words in real time.
Click the CC icon again to turn captions off.
βΏ Accessibility
Captions are an individual setting β each participant can toggle them independently based on their personal needs.
Managing Participants
The participants panel lets you see who's in the room and manage their presence during the meeting.
Click the Participants icon (group of people) to open the side panel showing all current participants, their mute status, and video status.
As the meeting host, you can mute individual participants or mute everyone at once to reduce background noise during presentations.
Click on any participant's video tile to pin it to a larger view. This is useful for focusing on a presenter or speaker during the call.
Hosts can remove disruptive participants from the room using the options available in the participants panel.
Raise Hand Feature
Signal to the meeting host and other participants that you'd like to speak without interrupting the conversation.
Click the Raise Hand icon (β hand icon) in the left toolbar. Your hand icon will begin pulsating to indicate it's raised.
All participants and the host will see a visual indicator next to your name showing that your hand is raised.
Click the icon again to lower your hand once the host acknowledges you.
Reactions & Emojis
Express yourself during meetings with animated emoji reactions that appear on screen for all participants.
Click the emoji/smiley icon in the toolbar to open the reactions panel. Select any emoji to send it as an animated reaction visible to everyone.
Reactions are a quick, non-disruptive way to respond β perfect for applause, agreement, laughter, or expressing emotions during a presentation.
Room Settings
Customize your meeting experience through the settings panel accessible via the gear icon in the toolbar.
Adjust your video resolution from low to high (up to 4K) depending on your internet connection speed.
Switch between different microphones, headsets, and speakers connected to your device.
Advanced users can choose between VP8, VP9, and H.264 video codecs for optimal performance on their device.
Hosts can restrict meeting recording so only the host is allowed to start a recording session.
Privacy & Security
Your privacy and security are the foundation of BlockStar Meet. Here's how we protect you.
All audio and video streams are encrypted using Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP). This means your communications cannot be intercepted during transmission.
BlockStar Meet does not collect or store your personal information. Data stays between you and your meeting participants only.
Rooms are protected by unique names. Only people who know the exact room name or possess the invite link can join your meeting.
Hosts can enable password-protected host access to prevent unauthorized users from taking control of meeting management functions.
For added protection, hosts can enable an optional lobby where participants wait for approval before entering the meeting. This prevents unauthorized access and gives you complete control over who joins your room.
